Dr. Meg Roetto, DMFT, LCSW

Dr. Roetto has worked with the foster and adoption population for many years. Her observations of the unique, complicated, and traumatic long-term effects on this population led to her research on the interaction of ambiguous loss and the foster and adoption population. In 2023, Dr. Roetto presented her research at the International Family Therapy Conference in Spain. She continues to research the intertwining of ambiguous loss on children, teens, and adults who are a part of the foster and adoption population. This research also looks at how clinicians can work uniquely with this population through an ambiguous loss lens and an ambiguous loss assessment.

Dr. Roetto is an approved supervisor for LMSW and an AAMFT approved supervisor. If you are looking for supervision, email megroetto@sperocounselingcenter.com

Ambiguous Loss Research

Dr. Roetto has been exploring the impact of ambiguous loss and therapeutic interventions that can assist individuals in the mastery of ambiguous loss for multiple years. During Dr. Roetto's dissertation, she began to take this exploration into research, which examined the symptoms of ambiguous loss in children who were a part of the foster or adoption population. This led to a development of an ambiguous loss symptom assessment tool for clinical use. Research of this assessment tool is currently underway with sites across the United States.

Training Opportunities

Dr. Roetto also provides training for agencies who work with the foster and adoption population regarding  the unique and traumatic impact of ambiguous loss. Training for clinicians are also offered for those who want to increase their clinical skills in working with either the foster/adoption population or ambiguous loss.
